I've been using and have good success with the FileSystemWatcher method lately but I'm about to run into a brick wall. A new project is soon to be handed over to me which will require me to montior folders on a non-Windows network (Novell). I have found out the hard way that FSW does not work on Novell drives. Can anyone suggest another method which will work on non-Windows network.
On a similar project I have already deployed I am using a DOS batch file which does a directory, redirects the output to a text file and then examines that text file for the presence of any new files. It works and in fact it works great but I don't really want to enter this next phase using an old DOS based approach. In fact, the IT director tells me that in a few months we will not even have filesystems...whatever that means. He has this mad scientist look in his eyes when he talks about this method which I will sooner or later have to become acquanited with.
